She blinks right as it goes off and keeps most of her memory of what happened. Her family forgets most of it because they were wiped clean. Cassia finds out Ky is in the military. She then needs to find him and with the help of Xander whose dad is a military enthusiast she gets the things she will need to go in and go unnoticed and find her true love. Little does she know that Xander gave her a false uniform and anyone that is there will realize she is a fake which is impersonating an officer and will be punished by death. Individual #10 - Ian

The GRAND Finale - Ryan

The Match of Your Choice

By Ryan

“So the red tablet didn’t work on you and Ky?” I ask.

“No, it didn’t,” Xander says. “But it didn’t work on you either, right?”

“No, it didn’t.” I reply back.

Xander sighs and looks at me. I thought he betrayed me, but he really didn’t. After all this time, he had always tried to help me. He had faith in me, and even though this is a dangerous game we’re all playing, he’s still here.

“Even though I know that you love Ky, I ask you, do you have any feelings for me?” he asked.

I knew that the only person I truly love is Ky, but I’m glad Xander and I are friends, again.

“Maybe just a little.” I said with a smile.

He smiles back at me, and I remember the time when I thought Xander was my actually Match. Everything seemed perfect, until I saw my microcard. Sometimes I wish I never saw Ky’s face on the microcard, but I know that at the same time, I don’t regret it.

His face turns serious, and he gives me a proposal. He wants to have his own choice, too. He tells me that he wants to help me find Ky. Since we are still friends, I agree with him. We tell officials that he cannot stop thinking about his Match, and he has to stay with her. He has to stay with me. Surprisingly, they allow him to come to the province.

My parents agree with our choice, but they know that I love Ky. They are helping me, as well. We start traveling to the Farmlands, where I hope to find him.

I dig at the dirt with the trowel. I think about the poem Grandfather gave me before he died. I think about the words, my own words, which I can write. I think of Ky and how my determination pushes me forward.

“Cassia.”

I look behind me and see Xander. He has a look of urgency.

“We know where he is.” He says.

I got up quickly and start following him. It was nighttime as he leads me through the field of crops.

“Wait for me, Ky. My words will bring me closer to finding the right ones. I will find you, soon.” I whisper under my breath.

The GRAND Finale - Kenya

    The Society Decides All
By Kenya

I know what the society expects, and it's not what I want. They expect for everyone to always go with what they say, and they're not used to anyone going against them. I don't think this is fair, and it should definitely change. Shouldn't we have a say on the things that matter most in life? We're all so used to living the way we're told, and I don't think we would know how to live without anyone to tell us what to do. The only reason this society is so "perfect" is because everything is going the way they want it to. It's going as planned.
Xander is who I was matched with. I should be completely happy with that. Any girl would be completely ecstatic to take my place. My feelings for Ky are different, though; they are much stronger. I know I love Xander, but I also love Ky. Ky makes me feel different when I'm around him. Xander has been my best friend for years. If only things wouldn't have gone the way they did. If only Ky's face hadn't flashed on the screen when I was viewing my micro-card. If only, if only, if only. It's all I'm ever thinking about. If I choose Xander, everything would be okay, but the deep feeling might simply vanish over time. If I choose Ky, I will be going against the society. My status would be at risk. I could become an Aberration. My whole family would be at risk. I don't know if I'm ready to make that sacrifice…
Going against the Society puts everything in my life at risk. I don't think I want to risk losing my family, especially Bram. He doesn't deserve this. Neither do my parents. No one deserves this. No one should have to go through what I'm going through. I'm going to have to stay with Xander; I have no other choice. I'm going to have to learn how to deal with letting go of Ky. We've been through music hall visits, hiking, and even writing together, so this is going to hit me hard. Once I learn to let go, I will be able to enjoy my time with Xander, and form a family. Plus, no one but Ky, would be at risk. Bram wouldn't. My parent wouldn't. Xander wouldn't… It would be the only safe choice.

The Individual - Ian

Yey or Nay?

Our group liked the novel as a whole. We liked the author's idea of a dystopia where the society chooses everything for you. We liked the use of symbolism throughout the novel. For example, the different artifacts each person had symbolized their individuality. We liked the use of imagery in the book. We also like the cliffhanger at the end, where Cassia was so determined. This enticed us to read the sequels. One thing we disliked about the book was the amount of action it had. Since it was about a dystopian society, we figured it could use more action. We recommend this book to future readers. We recommend it because it shows a society other than the one we live in. This could show the reader how different life could be. We also recommend it because it's simply a good read. If you like "[A] superb dystopian romance," then this book is for you. There are also two sequels to this book if you would like to continue with the story. Lastly, we recommend this book because it has great character development.
